The Punjab government has already proclaimed significant changes in the school textbooks of the academic year 202627 and the objective is to integrate the education system with the current learning needs and skill demands. The Punjab Curriculum and Textbook Board (PCTB) has affirmed the revisions and they will be rolled out in schools within the province.

    Most Textbooks to Remain Unchanged

Based on statements of the authorities, most of the school textbooks will be retained in the next academic year. Officials justified that continuity in most of the subjects will save the students and teachers the needless inconvenience. Rather than the total change, the government has opted to go narrow by making minor changes only on specific subjects that the government felt thus there is a dire necessity to change it.

Key Changes in Class 9 Curriculum

Class 9 has been modified the most especially the modern skills and technology related subjects.

    Computer Science (Class 9)

    • A revised and updated syllabus will be introduced.
    • Class 9 has been modified the most especially the modern skills and technology related subjects.
    • The amount of pages has been minimized to make the textbook more understandable and easier to read by students.

    Entrepreneurship (Tech)

    • The Entrepreneurship (Tech) textbook has also been revised.
    • Content has been condensed to remove repetition and improve clarity.
    • Greater emphasis has been placed on practical thinking and innovation.

    Printing Orders and Immediate Implementation

The Punjab Curriculum and Textboard has already made official guidelines to replace printing orders with the changed content. Schools are instructed to make these changes now so that the teachers and students can smooth sail before the academic session commences in 2026-27.

Focus on Modern Skills and Creative Learning

Officials from the education department stated that the revisions are designed to:

    • Promote creative and critical thinking
    • Improve understanding of technology-based subjects
    • Prepare students for future careers in a digital and innovation-driven world

The government would ease the burden on the students by simplifying the textbooks and updating the content and enhancing the results of the learning process.

    Positive Response from Education Experts

The decision has been met with enthusiasm by the education experts and academic experts as a much needed reform. They feel that frequent changes of the curriculum are necessary to make education relevant and competitive. The fact that the textbook length is reduced was also acclaimed by experts who stated that when the material is concise, the students can become more focused on the main idea.

The outcome of the Punjab government to revise school textbooks during the academic year 202627 is a demonstration of a moderate nature of the educational reforms. The revision of Class 9 Computer Science and Entrepreneurship has retained most of the textbooks, and therefore the authorities have opted to modernize the major areas of the system without bringing too much disruption to the entire system. It is believed that such updates will enhance the quality of learning, promote innovation, and equip future students with skills that will enable them to sustain the future challenges.
