The National Database and Registration Authority (NADRA) has been forced to suspend operations at one of its registration centers in Karachi till the work is completed, which has created inconvenience for people availed its services for formalities related to identity.
The suspension, officials said, is part of an infrastructure project to improve the facility of public services and improve the overall customer experience at the NADRA center.
Renovation Work Causes Temporary Service Disruption
Police said the Orangi Town Nadra registration center has been closed for a while for renovation and maintenance work.
The upgrade project will involve upgrading the building structure, the waiting areas, the digital processing systems and the public service counters, all of which will be expanded to cope with the high volume of daily visitors.
The improvements are required to make the facility more comfortable for the applicants and to improve efficiency of operation, officials said.
Citizens Advised to Visit Alternative NADRA Centers
NADRA has urged people of Orangi Town and its surrounding area to move temporarily to other registration centers in Karachi for immediate registration services in the following manner:
- CNIC applications and renewals
- B-Form issuance
- Family registration certificates
- Biometric verification
- Passport-related identity verification services
Authorities advised people to check on the availability of services at the centers in their vicinity before travelling to other centers to prevent overcrowding and delays.
Efforts to Improve Public Services
The renovation project is part of the digitalization and modernization of registration facilities throughout Pakistan, and the enhancement of digital public services, which is the objective of the NADRA.
The authority has been focusing on cutting waiting time, improving its online services and improving infrastructure at the busier registration centers.
Some of the centers in Karachi have been overcrowded and have had long lines for a long time, especially in the areas with high population density like Orangi Town.
Temporary Inconvenience for Applicants
Citizens voiced worry about the inconvenience of the temporary closure, particularly for those who need immediate documentation to travel, bank, attend school or for government-related tasks.
NADRA officials, however, assured the public that all has been done to finish the refurbishment work on time and resume services without any delay.
NADRA Continues Digital Expansion
NADA also has been making efforts to enhance the accessibilities of citizens nationwide by setting up digital infrastructure, such as online applications, biometric systems, and mobile registration in recent years.
To reduce in-person visits during renovation, officials promoted applicants to make use of the online platforms available.
More information on the reopening date of the Orangi Town center will be provided once renovation work is finished.
