MULTAN – A public holiday has been officially announced across the Vehari district on July 11 in honor of the annual Urs of Baba Diwan Haji Sher, recognized as one of the earliest Muslim Sufi saints to establish a shrine in the region.
According to Deputy Commissioner Khalid Javed, the three-day spiritual event will commence on July 9 and run through July 11. The district administration has designated the final day of the celebrations as an official holiday for the entire general public.
While all local government departments and public institutions are scheduled to close on July 11, the administration clarified that ongoing university and board examinations will proceed as planned to avoid any disruptions to students’ academic schedules.
To accommodate the massive influx of pilgrims traveling from various parts of the region, the local government has put extensive contingency plans in place:
- Continuous Operations: Critical administrative divisions, emergency medical response teams, security personnel, and healthcare facilities will remain fully operational despite the public holiday.
- Crowd Management: Comprehensive safety and administrative structures have been completed beforehand to guarantee a peaceful, well-organized gathering.
The annual Urs remains a cornerstone of Vehari’s religious identity, drawing thousands of devotees every year. The district management is closely monitoring all logistics to ensure the safety and hospitality of all incoming visitors.
