Sindh has increased its digital traffic enforcement system by extending the e-challan mechanism which was initially only used in Karachi to expand to Sukkur and Hyderabad. The project represents a significant move towards updating the traffic monitoring in the province.

Sindh Home Minister Zia-ul-Hassan Lanjar verified the expansion and added that the digital driving licence verification is also underway well. Although he acknowledged that system errors might arise, he assured the people that the reforms undertaken by the government are geared towards effective and transparent traffic control.

Karachi Generates Over Rs710 Million in E-Challan Fines

In the same month, the Karachi Traffic Police stated that the city already earned more than Rs710 million in e-challan fines, which shows the effect of intelligent monitoring systems.

Over 93,000 e-challans were served during this period in cases of different traffic offenses.

    Top Traffic Violations in Karachi

A majority of the fines were on the failure to wear seat belts and 57,541 challans of more than Rs570 million were issued.

Motorcyclists were also heavily fined, including:

    • 22,257 challans for riding without helmets
    • Total fines exceeding Rs111 million

Overspeeding Monitored Through Smart Tracker Systems

Speeding offences, particularly by large vehicles like trailers, dumpers, and water tankers are managed with installed tracking devices.

    This has led to:

    • 1,188 challans for commercial heavy vehicles
    • 2,699 challans for overspeeding by private vehicle owners
    • 3,102 challans for signal violations

    Additional Traffic Violations Recorded

Other common violations in Karachi included:

    • 1,278 challans for fancy number plates
    • 1,178 challans for tinted windows
    • Combined fines exceeding Rs29.4 million

    Further violations:

    • 611 cases of stop-line breaches
    • 426 challans for wrong-way driving

Traffic Police Encourage Citizens to Follow Rules

Karachi Traffic Police encouraged motorists to obey the rules of the road to save themselves and to avoid any punishment. Officers reiterated that responsible driving minimizes accidents and makes the road safe among all road users.

The extension of the e-challan system of Sindh into Sukkur and Hyderabad is a major step in the direction of technology-based and transparent traffic control. Having already fined record numbers in Karachi, and with more and more monitoring, the authorities hope to improve road safety in the province. The citizens are prompted to adhere to traffic regulations in order to contribute to a safer transport network.
