    One of the most important public healthcare programs in Pakistan is the Sehat Card Scheme or, as it is also called, the Sehat Sahulat Program. The scheme gives free medical care to the eligible families in government and other private hospitals nationwide. The program is still extending its services in 2025 so that all deserving citizens can access quality medical care without the strain of paying the cost.

    This article explains what the Sehat Card is, who can use it, what treatments are covered, and how to check eligibility or apply.

    What is the Sehat Card?

    The Sehat Card is a health insurance card issued by the government, which enables people and families to obtain free medical services up to a certain limit of 365 days. The program operates by checking your digital identity on basis of valid CNIC, i.e. your CNIC per se forms your Sehat Card in 2025.

    Financial Coverage

    Under the new 2025 system, every qualified family may have medical treatment up to the value of:

    • PKR 1,000,000 (1 Million) per year

    This coverage applies to emergency treatments, major surgeries, chronic illnesses, and maternity care.

    Who is Eligible?

    The eligibility is mainly based on income categories gathered by national records. As a rule, the following groups are to be mentioned:

    • Low-income and deserving families
    • Beneficiaries of Ehsaas or BISP programs
    • Registered residents of participating provinces
    • Individuals with valid CNIC numbers

    To verify eligibility, the CNIC number must be checked through the official database.

    How to Check Eligibility

    There are two main methods:

    Method 1: SMS

    Send your CNIC number (without spaces) to:
    8500

    You will receive a reply confirming whether you are eligible.

    Method 2: Online Portal

    Visit the official Sehat Sahulat Program website:
    https://sehatsahulatprogram.gov.pk

    Enter your CNIC and check your status.

    How to Use the Sehat Card

    1. Visit any panel hospital participating in the program
    2. Show your original CNIC at the Sehat Sahulat counter
    3. The staff will verify your eligibility digitally
    4. After verification, treatment will begin free of cost
    5. No extra application or registration fee is required

    List of Participating Hospitals

    The Sehat Card can be used in:

    • Government hospitals
    • Selected private hospitals
    • Specialized medical centers
