Punjab Food Authority (PFA) has increased its attack on food safety violations with 14 food outlets being closed in Lahore as large scale inspections initiated by the authority at the start of the new year. The operations form part of the current endeavors of PFA in taking care of the hygienic food standards and safeguarding the health of the people in Punjab.
Massive Inspections Across Lahore
As it was reported, the total number of food units checked by the PFA inspection teams was 3 427 in various places in Lahore. In these inspections, there were 14 food points that were closed due to serious violation of food safety laws. Also 8 FIRs were issued against the violators and 150 food businesses were fined RS. 2.05 million because they did not follow the rules.
According to the authorities, the closed outlets were either being run on unsanitary conditions, with low quality of ingredients, or defied licensing and safety standards.
Crackdown on Fake Honey and Food Adulteration
During the early morning raids in the Bagh of Badami, PFA teams discovered that there were two illicit honey production plants. The authorities had disposed 160 kilograms of counterfeit honey, as well as had detained over one maund of glucose, which was being used to adulterate, during the operation. Such measures underscore the tough attitude of the authority towards the issue of food fraud and the sale of adulterated products.
Record-Breaking Inspections in 2025
Asim Javed, the Director General Punjab Food Authority, disclosed that in 2025 food inspection had risen by 105 percent as compared to the previous years. He informed that over 1.35 million food points were checked in Punjab last year. In these inspections 309 million litres of milk were inspected, and 1,068 FIRs registered on milk adulteration cases.
The numbers denote the intensity of enforcement and the aggressive style of the authority in regards to quality of food as well as consumer protection.
Digital Monitoring and Transparency Measures
Since the beginning of 2026, PFA required food business to post full records of water and milk quality on its online portal. The intention of this move is to enhance traceability, transparency and accountability in the food supply chain. Digital surveillance will assist the authorities to monitor compliance in a better way and promptly deal with violators.
Modernization Plans for 2026
DG Asim Javed reflected on future plans and announced a number of initiatives related to 2026, such as reorganizing slaughterhouses, enhancing the system of digital monitoring, and controlling the work in the field through new uniforms and body cameras. He also announced his intentions to increase the school meal scheme and create another modern food laboratory and a PFA House in Rawalpindi.
Zero-Tolerance Policy Against Food Fraud
The Punjab food authority with the directives put in place by the Chief Minister- Maryam Nawaz still undertakes 24 hour round-the-clock duties and checks on food adulteration and unhealthy standards. Authorities threatened to apply severe punishment to offenders without any form of discrimination.
The closing of 14 food points in Lahore and the highest levels of inspections in Punjab are indications of the zero tolerance by PFA to unsafe and adulterated food. As the power of enforcement and digital transparency, as well as modernization measures, so will the high standards of food safety and the protection of people in terms of health in 2026.
