The scientists have estimated the dates of the Eid Al Adha 2026 using scientific calculations of the visibility of the moon.
The Sharjah Space and Astronomy Hub at the University of Sharjah says that Wednesday, May 27, 2026 will probably be the first day of Eid Al Adha.
Astronomical Forecast for Dhu al-Hijja 1447 AH
The research center published a more detailed calculation on the sighting of the crescent moon that marks the start of the Islamic month of Dhu al-Hijja.
Key projected dates include:
- Start of Dhu al-Hijja: Monday, May 18, 2026
- Day of Arafat: Tuesday, May 26, 2026
- Eid Al Adha: Wednesday, May 27, 2026
These days are calculated on scientific observations of the conditions of lunar visibility.
Report Submitted to UAE Fatwa Council
Hamid M.K. Al Naimiy, the Director of the Sharjah Space and Astronomy Hub, affirmed that the results have been formally presented to the UAE Fatwa Council.
This submission was created to favour the moon sighting activities and help the religious leaders to make informed decisions which will be a combination of:
- Scientific data
- Islamic jurisprudence
Final Decision Rests with Religious Authorities
Although the astronomical forecasts are detailed, the officials pointed out that the astronomical calculations are merely advisory.
The Sharjah Space and Astronomy Hub clarified that:
- Official announcements will be made by the UAE Fatwa Council
- Moon sighting confirmations remain the final authority
- Religious bodies determine the official start of Islamic months
Importance of Eid Al Adha
One of the most important Islamic holidays is called Eid Al Adha or the Festival of Sacrifice. It is a reminder of how Prophet Ibrahim (AS) was willing to sacrifice his son as a way of obeying God.
The festival is marked by:
- Special Eid prayers
- Animal sacrifice (Qurbani)
- Charity and sharing with the needy
It is believed that the early astronomical forecast of the Eid Al Adha 2026 in the United Arab Emirates will fall on May 27, 2026, with the Day of Arafat on May 26.
The citizens are however advised to wait until the official confirmation by the UAE Fatwa Council which will declare the final dates based on traditional moon-sighting procedures with the addition of scientific input.
